In crowded markets, visibility is no longer the challenge. Connection is.
Consumers are exposed to thousands of messages every day. Most are forgotten within seconds. The brands that endure — the ones people recommend, defend and feel emotionally attached to — are different. They don’t just sell products. They stand for something. They feel real.

That’s the foundation of a love brand. And authenticity is what makes it possible.

Why do people fall in love with brands?

Think about brands like Nike or Patagonia. Their success isn’t driven solely by product features or pricing. It’s built on identity, values and consistency.

Customers don’t just buy a device or a jacket. They buy into a mindset. A worldview. A shared belief about creativity, sustainability, innovation or independence.

When a brand consistently communicates who it is — and proves it through action — it stops being interchangeable. It becomes personal.

What makes a brand authentic?

Authenticity is not a marketing tactic. It’s alignment.

It means that what a brand says, what it does and what it believes are coherent. It means the messaging reflects genuine values, not temporary trends.

Authenticity shows up in four essential ways:

Clarity of purpose — The brand knows why it exists beyond making a profit.

Consistency — Communication feels recognisable across every touchpoint.

Honesty in positioning — No exaggerated promises. No artificial personality.

Storytelling — Creates an emotional connection with customers and helps build trust and credibility.

People are remarkably skilled at detecting insincerity. If communication feels forced, overly polished or strategically emotional, trust erodes quickly.

The role of copywriting in brand authenticity

Authenticity lives in language.

Copywriting is often seen as persuasive or performance-driven — and it is. But when done properly, it also reinforces identity and trust.

Authentic copywriting:

Speaks to the customer, not at them.

Avoids inflated claims and vague superlatives.

Uses real stories and concrete examples.

Maintains a tone that reflects the brand’s true character.

The most powerful improvements come from removing elements that create doubt: exaggerated claims, overly polished language, attempts to appeal to everyone or efforts to hide imperfections.

Simplifying the brand’s expression and focusing on what is true and consistent makes authenticity easier to perceive.

When a brand communicates with clarity and honesty, it lowers resistance. Customers feel understood rather than targeted.

From authentic brand to love brand

Becoming a love brand doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of consistent, value-driven communication over time.

When authenticity is embedded into messaging and experience, several things happen:

Customers return — not just because they need the product, but because they trust the brand.

Advocacy grows organically. People recommend brands they feel aligned with.

Loyalty deepens, even in competitive markets.

Emotional connection becomes a strategic advantage.

How to strengthen your brand’s authenticity

Start internally. Define what your brand truly stands for. Clarify your values, your voice and your non-negotiables.

Then audit your communication:

Does your website reflect your positioning?

Do your headlines align with your tone?

Are your promises realistic and specific?

Authenticity isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being consistent and transparent.

In a world where audiences are increasingly sceptical, brands that communicate with honesty and coherence stand out — not because they are louder, but because they feel trustworthy.

And trust is the foundation of every love brand.

Being a social media designer—aka a Design Specialist—for LinkedIn is about learning how to explain everything without saying too much. Which, honestly, is an essential survival skill these days. We live in a world where no one has time, everyone has an opinion, and patience lasts less than a 10-second story. We want fast, direct messages that are also interesting and full of personality—but without having to think too hard about them. Bonus points if we can get it while scrolling with our already tired thumb.

Social media design lives right in the middle of this chaos. Saying what matters without becoming basic, communicating without exhausting, and simplifying without losing substance. And still respecting identity, branding, and “what the brand has always done.” As if it weren’t the result of countless versions named something like “final_”, “final_final”, and “final_now_for_real.” It’s basically trying to please an entire WhatsApp group with a GIF that only we found funny.

In an agency, things get even more interesting. Because a brand never has just one personality—it has several. There’s the strategic vision, the project manager’s urgency, the classic “we’ve always done it this way,” the “we want to be different, but not too different,” the old followers, the new followers, and that one person who always says “I don’t love it” and can’t really explain why. The work quickly shifts from design to managing ideas, egos, and expectations—all within a single post that Instagram insists on changing dimensions every other month.

And all of this says a lot about the times we live in. We’re constantly editing ourselves. Thinking about what to say and how to say it. We want to show who we really are, but always with filters. We want to be different, but within limits we set ourselves. To have an opinion, but without bruising the ego of those around us.

This field ends up being exactly that, but in a more professional version: communicating in a world already saturated with communication, yet always asking for more—more content, faster, with better results. All of this on a budget the size of a pea.

And maybe that’s why this work makes so much sense today. Social media design doesn’t need to say everything—just what truly matters, quickly, engagingly, and memorably. It’s a constant challenge of attention and synthesis: communicating the essential while balancing creativity, strategy, and identity. In the middle of this chaos, being a social media designer means learning how to do a lot with very little—and still managing to get a smile or a like along the way. All of this before someone scrolls again.

In an era of increasing social media consumption where platforms move quickly,
audiences scroll mindlessly, and algorithms reward frequency, social media designers
are faced with a paradox that defines modern creative work: the pressure to produce
fast content that performs, and the desire to develop purposeful design that has depth
and meaning.
This conflict goes beyond a technical aspect. Designers are trained to care about their
process: this ranges between composition, detail, alignment, color harmony, and
storytelling. However, social media rewards speed, novelty, and volume. While on one
hand a beautifully designed visual may take hours to make and seconds to be ignored,
on the other hand a quick trend-based layout, made in minutes, might go viral.
Ultimately, this leaves creatives with a heavy question: What does “good design”
mean when the audience has a short attention span?
Purposeful design is based on clarity, communicating intention, and honouring the
viewer’s time. It’s the type of design that aligns visually with strategy, brand values,
and emotional impact. However, fast content must be created to exist within a
production cycle, that is ultimately shaped by deadlines, platform trends, and
performance metrics. In today’s world, the social media designer is expected to deliver
both, often at the same time.
To navigate through this dilemma, the designer is required to firstly redefine it’s
creative process and, consequently, it’s design system. One which is based on
adaptable templates, consistent visual languages, and modular elements that can be
quickly shifted without sacrificing intention. This also means embracing simplicity:
when time is limited, clarity becomes a design principle.
Ultimately, the true challenge lies in mindset: designers must stay inspired while
working within constraints, and stay strategic while remaining aware of the social
media channel and brand they are communicating for. This is an essential skill that
represents the creative’s duality in today’s fast-passed social media channels.
Fast content will always be part of the digital landscape, but purpose is what gives
design longevity and meaning. When these two coexist, brands communicate with
integrity, audiences feel comprehended, and designers experience the satisfaction of
creating work that is both seen and felt. In today’s modern world, the goal is no longer
choosing between design and performance, it’s learning how to make them meet in
the middle.

The advent of the internet propelled the rise of online advertising, and in the mid-90s, researchers and marketing professionals sought to understand if the internet could be a potential advertising medium. What is a fact is that an increasing number of companies, whether small, medium, or large, have been investing in online advertising, especially on social media platforms.

The Beggining

The emergence of social media and its rapid growth over the past decade has revolutionized the business landscape. This impact has not only affected how companies communicate but also the marketing strategies they adopt and implement. According to data collected by eMarketer, it is estimated that in the United States, spending on social media advertising is expected to increase, reaching $79.28 billion in 2024, marking a 25% increase from the $63.06 billion spent in 2021. Learn more about Social Network Ad Spending Forecast

What is it:

Social media advertising is characterized by its immediacy and interactivity compared to traditional media (such as television or radio) and Web 1.0. This form of advertising encompasses ads generated and published by companies on social media platforms, allowing consumers to take interactive actions, such as liking or commenting on an ad. Social media platforms are attractive and increasingly promising avenues for companies to conduct promotional activities and communicate effectively with their customers.

However, each social media platform presents different characteristics and attributes, thus providing different experiences to users. Considering this, advertising professionals should align the nature of the platform with the type of product (1), the advertising objective (2), and the ad message (3) before embarking on a campaign.

Facebook is one of the most popular platforms, boasting a large user base and proving to be an effective medium for companies to communicate with consumers and market products. Similarly, TikTok, a more recent platform heavily utilized by Generation Z, has gained prominence in the market by providing new content production tools and emerging as a popular promotional channel.

Importance

While the use of social media is already a part of the strategic portfolio of some companies, others have yet to recognize the importance of developing marketing strategies through them. These platforms can be valuable marketing tools as they enable organizations to understand the tastes and preferences of their customers through online behaviors and subsequently formulate strategies based on the information they gather through these platforms. With this in mind, we can also assume that one of the main advantages of social media advertising is the ability to create personalized messages for different audience segments, something that is not as firmly established in offline advertising.

In conclusion, the evolution of digital advertising, especially on social media, has brought a new paradigm to marketing strategies. The ability to precisely target audiences and personalize messages according to individual consumer characteristics is one of the key advantages that social media advertising offers compared to traditional methods. Considering the ever-evolving landscape of these platforms, it is evident that this new form of advertising will continue to be a driving force in the marketing industry, further reinforcing its relevance and impact in the business world.

In the vast world of e-commerce, where every click can lead to an opportunity, the importance of email marketing shines brightly. While the fast-paced nature of e-commerce may seem daunting, email marketing offers a solid and effective approach to engaging and converting consumers. This article will explore why email marketing is undeniably an indispensable tool for an e-commerce strategy.

Building Relationships:

Suppose e-commerce is a bustling store with thousands of products on digital shelves. Now, picture email marketing as an experienced salesperson, providing personalized recommendations directly to buyers. By reinforcing an e-commerce strategy with an email marketing approach, we’re not only trying to sell but also working to build a strong relationship with our customers. Regular email communication ensures that our brand is always on their radar, making it a natural choice when they reach the purchasing decision stage.

Segmentation:

This is where the famous audience segmentation comes into play. Different customers have different interests and needs. With well-structured email marketing strategies, we can communicate highly targeted and personalized, leading to better open and conversion rates. This is hitting the bullseye instead of shooting in the dark. By segmenting our databases into groups with similar characteristics, such as purchase history or preferences, we can tailor our messages to meet the specific needs of each group.

Recovery Phase:

It’s common for customers to add products to their shopping carts and then, for some reason, abandon them. This isn’t a problem; email marketing is the greatest ally in this scenario. Strategically sending gentle reminders about abandoned carts can be the nudge needed to bring these customers back. These small email marketing strategies for recovering abandoned carts allow us to revive something the customer has already shown interest in, increasing our chances of conversion.

Customer Loyalty and Retention:

A customer’s journey doesn’t end after the first purchase. Email marketing plays a vital role in customer loyalty and retention. We should send post-purchase emails to express gratitude and offer incentives for future purchases. We can even create loyalty programs encouraging customers to return for repeat purchases. As mentioned, this is not just about selling; it’s about building a community of loyal customers who trust and are engaged with our brand.

Let’s conclude with some email marketing tips and best practices to take home:

Craft attention-grabbing email subject lines to increase open rates.

Segmentation is key: create groups based on your contacts’ preferences and behaviours.

Personalize messages with the customer’s name and a friendly tone for a more personal approach.

Keep emails concise and direct, avoiding information overload.

Continuously analyze key metrics such as open rate, click-through rate, and conversion to adjust your strategy as needed.

Keep an eye on industry statistics and benchmarks to set goals effectively.

Currently, the social media landscape is in constant flux. One platform that’s been increasingly capturing attention is TikTok. And for good reason: there are now 4M monthly active users in Portugal alone! But what does this mean for businesses? How can TikTok for Business act as a lever for your business growth?

TikTok User Profile

First and foremost, it’s crucial to understand who these 4M users are. TikTok’s audience is young, creative, and seeks authentic content. These users value originality and genuineness, meaning brands that stand out on this platform are those that showcase their more human side.

The Power of TikTok for Business

So, why should one consider TikTok for Business? Let’s delve into some benefits:

Massive Reach

With 4M users in Portugal, the potential to reach a broad audience is undeniable. Moreover, TikTok’s algorithm promotes the discovery of new content, allowing even small businesses the chance to reach thousands of individuals.

Genuine Engagement

Interactions on TikTok are sincere. Users engage spontaneously, and when they resonate with content, they don’t hesitate to share it. Therefore, a well-thought-out strategy on TikTok for Business can lead to organic and valuable engagement for the brand.

Creative Format

Moreover, TikTok is renowned for its format of short, dynamic videos. Companies have the opportunity to experiment, innovate, and create content that stands out and resonates with the audience.

Approaching TikTok for Business: What Should You Consider?

TikTok is distinct from other social media platforms. Hence, your approach here should differ. Remember:

Authenticity is key. Users value genuine content. Ditch overly produced ads and opt for a more personal and human touch.

Engage with the community. Capitalise on current challenges and trends. Tailor them to your brand and actively participate in discussions.

In conclusion, TikTok isn’t just a fleeting trend. With 4M users in Portugal and specific tools like TikTok for Business, companies have a golden opportunity to connect with a young and engaged audience. However, the key to success lies in an authentic and well-thought-out approach.

I work with creative writing. But the day-to-day demands of my job limit my search for ideas

RABBIT BRAIN, TURTLE MIND

When I started working in creative writing, I turned John Cleese’s book “Creativity – A Practical and Fun Guide” into my bible. Discover more publications by this author: https://www.goodreads.com/author/list/11777.John_Cleese

It was this work that introduced me to a theory formulated by Guy Claxton: “Rabbit Brain, Turtle Mind.”

I propose to my readers that they accompany me in deconstructing this dichotomy. On one hand, the rabbit brain allows us to understand issues, weigh pros and cons, develop arguments, and solve problems. It’s our rational side, a mode of thinking that we activate almost unconsciously. On the other hand, the “Turtle Mind” is presented as a slower, less intentional, more playful way of thinking. It’s, in short, our dreamy side and also the one that sustains creativity.

TURTLE MIND: THE YEAST OF CREATIVITY

It’s easy to have a tendency to undervalue the “Turtle Mind,” associating it with something akin to daydreaming, something adverse to productivity. However, creative writing requires this playful spirit. To fetch ideas, one must enter an almost meditative state, let go, transition to a different rhythm, adopt a more passive and observant position toward the world around them. To be creative, I need to make room for the “Turtle Mind,” and that requires time. Yet, time is the scarcest resource for those working in an agency.

CREATIVE WRITING AGAINST THE CLOCK

In this frenetic pace that marks the daily lives of creatives, the “Turtle Mind” becomes a utopia and is cannibalized by the “Rabbit Brain” in response to the urgency of requests.

For example, it took me several months to write this article. I slowed down, rambled, traveled through the branching paths of thought to carefully and meticulously explore each idea. But that was only possible because the request was made well in advance, giving me time to savor the “Turtle Mind.”

The situation changes when a client requests a follower acquisition campaign from today to tomorrow. If time is short, a more reactive and less contemplative creative process is required.

THE HARE AND THE TORTOISE: A DILEMMA

Experts say that until that idea is found, the path is a constant dialectic between the “Rabbit Brain” and the “Turtle Mind”: allowing oneself to wander for a while and then taking an analytical look at what has been done to filter ideas. And this game is repeated until a satisfactory result is obtained.

And how is this time-consuming process reconciled without slowing down the fast pace that agency work demands?

If the “Turtle Mind” is so essential for creative writing but seems so difficult to apply in reality, I am faced with the following paradox: my work requires creativity while limiting it at the same time. The circumstances of daily life stifle the “Turtle Mind” and, consequently, the originality of ideas.

After a few years of pondering this issue, I have not yet found a constructive conclusion for this article. This is a plea for help. All contributions to help me resolve this impasse will be greatly appreciated. Please share your ideas with us.”

“Not all text is poetry, and not all graphics are art.” (Meyer, 1997)

Currently, every human being is bombarded daily with information through various channels, often consuming it without realizing. Despite being taken for granted, all this information is carefully designed for the public and aims to fulfill the functions assigned to them, conveying a message and meaning to the reader. Everything involving the visual transmission of information is carried out by graphic designers, who use methods studied in information design. Learn more at: https://infoportugal.pt/2019/11/22/visualizacao-da-informacao/

Visual communication has existed for many years, and traces of its foundations can be found since prehistory, where early drawings and pictograms gave rise to the first alphabets and visual graphics. Before phonetic writing, ideas and concepts were represented through drawings that over time evolved into pictograms, leading to pictographic and cuneiform writing. These symbols were later associated with sounds, eventually giving rise to letters. Precursors of information graphics can also be found in Ancient Egypt, where Sumerian words and images were combined to create hieroglyphs.

For centuries, visual graphics played a crucial role in visual communication, often intersecting with writing. However, with the evolution of communication systems, the advancement of printing, the introduction of personal computers, among others, all visual communication that exceeded writing became the realm of artists, making these graphic elements less significant in the eyes of the general public. Nevertheless, these artists and later graphic designers showed how the use of graphics could be more efficient than writing.

The term “graphic design” only emerged in the 20th century, distinguished from art by its functional aspect in addition to aesthetics. A product resulting from graphic design must cater to the client, consider audience requirements, and adapt to production methods while presenting the author’s aesthetic preferences.

Graphic Design – The mother of information design

Graphic design, at a superficial level, can be described as the visual arrangement of different elements – images and words. However, more than mere graphic representations, graphic design is a language and exists to express ideas. It can create strategies, convey sensations, influence decisions, and guide people. It has a moral duty and can be used for social causes and to raise social responsibility, reflecting the values, beliefs, and needs of the era it is in. It’s essential for a designer to stay constantly updated, adapting a brand or product to new cultures and trends.

One branch of graphic design is information design, which specifically studies the information that needs to be conveyed and seeks to present it in a way that facilitates understanding and readability, regardless of its format. This organization of information is done hierarchically, and the content, to fulfill its function, must be appealing to the reader. Information design can have various objectives, such as warning, teaching, explaining, entertaining, or guiding the reader. Designers can make use of typography, color palettes, images, positioning, scales, sound, light, textures, materials, and more.

Without information design, various aspects of everyday life would become complicated. A simple bus route would be challenging to navigate; for the passenger, knowing which bus to take, where to catch it, and understanding its schedule would be a laborious task, just as it would be difficult for the bus driver to navigate without road signage. Information design has the capacity to communicate complex information in a simple, quick, and easily understandable way.

Thanks to information design, there are various systems that provide guidelines for daily life in diverse environments, products, and situations, such as warning symbols and color codes. When executed correctly, these systems can convey information, instructions, and data to different people of various nationalities and cultures.

On July 5th, Meta Network surprisingly launched Threads by Instagram, a new social platform that experienced overwhelming growth with over 100 million users in the first five days. In an increasingly digital world, this new player in the social media landscape brings a plethora of new opportunities and challenges for businesses and their marketing efforts. BYD – Boost Your Digital, a performance marketing agency, explores what Threads by Instagram brings to the table and how it can be crucial in companies’ digital marketing strategy.

Getting to Know Threads by Instagram: First Impressions

In terms of features, Threads by Instagram is a direct competitor to Twitter within Meta Network’s social sphere. This app focuses primarily on text, emphasizing short writing and the creation of threads with multiple entries in a single post. However, it’s not limited to text only; users can also share images, videos, and links.

This new platform arrives with a minimalist initial version where basic functionality contributed to a virtually error-free launch, even with such massive initial adoption. This new social network has an algorithmic feed, with no option for chronological viewing or following specific individuals. Other features like editing, direct messaging, search, or hashtags are not yet available.

Expected Evolution: Future Features

While the basic functionality may be appealing to some users, it is expected that the platform will evolve beyond what it is today. Adam Mosseri from Meta Network has pointed out some future features that are expected to be seen in Threads by Instagram. These include the creation of a feed exclusively for viewing posts from people and brands that the user follows, an editing button for posts, and the inclusion of post search.

Threads by Instagram and the European Union Challenge

The mass adoption has not yet included users from the European Union. Due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) legislation, which seeks to protect users of applications considered “gatekeepers,” Threads by Instagram is not yet available in this region. It is evident that resolving this situation is a priority for Meta Network, but the time it will take to overcome this obstacle remains uncertain.

A New Approach to Marketing

With the advent of Threads by Instagram, a new platform emerges where brands can promote their products and services. However, it is essential to remember that this new app is predominantly conversational, requiring a differentiated marketing approach. Here at BYD – Boost Your Digital, with our extensive ten-year experience working with Meta Network and Twitter tools, we understand that the primary goal in the early stages should be the creation of consistent, interesting, useful, engaging, and entertaining content, as well as establishing connections with other users.

The Future of Advertising on Threads by Instagram

For now, Meta Network has revealed that we should not expect a monetization strategy in the near future. However, this new application may offer an additional range of data for Meta to understand user behavior, thus enabling ad optimization. As a performance marketing agency, here at BYD, we are aware that more inventory leads to lower costs, making profitable ad execution more viable.

Conclusion: The Importance in Digital Marketing Strategy

The arrival of Threads by Instagram to the social media landscape is a significant milestone, opening new doors for companies’ digital marketing strategy. However, it is crucial to understand the nature of this platform to better leverage its features and potential. BYD – Boost Your Digital, with solid experience in using Meta Network tools and creating performance marketing strategies, is prepared to help businesses navigate this new universe of digital marketing.
